From Q's journal about Laura -
Lately, I have been reading all sorts of stories in the news about these revelations in relation to Laura's murder, which range from mention of this cult to other -- I had some idea of her involvement with the drugs and rest, and I really did try to stop her with some of it, but ..
in the end, Laura became swept in a lot of things, and I don't know that she would even recognize herself at hearing these stories now. I am determined to actually find out myself in who was responsible for the death of my best friend, and I also want to speak to this editor of the paper. News is just that, the news, but I wonder how much she knows now as well.
I did get a mysterious note the other day that contained something about Laura, but I have no idea who left it. It just said one sentence:
Laura won't have have the laugh in the end, I will.
That was it, and I have to wonder. I haven't let the cops or anyone know about this yet. It was left at the record store in a box with a single white rose.

What dwells beneath the fair streets of Sinners Rest? Rats? Bats? Mutant cats? Perhaps all of the above, as well as something far more sinister.
Beneath a large apartment building, there is a hidden entrance to a sewer. It looks innocent enough, except for the cages scattered about on the landing. This area has a stench that sends the stomach turning away and the mind reeling, yet this girl ventured on, deep into the depths the sewer pipes under the streets.
Something terrible is lurking down here. Though I found no humans on my adventures through the twisting, turning pipes, there were signs of them all over, in the pile of ripped and dirty clothing on a landing, to a tiny boat docked in what appeared to be the harbor, and a large cage which could either accomodate a number of animals or humans.
Surely the police will want to investigate who has been down here and what they've been doing, especially after the murder of poor Laura Dreadlow. Could her abduction have anything to do with the hidden passages under the streets? Could an entire crime syndicate lurk just a few feet underground?
These tunnels could be a hub of illegal activity, of drug activity or even human trafficking. Why do the police not monitor these areas? Someone needs to answer for what is dwelling in the underbelly of the city and fast, before someone else ends up dead in the harbor.

This morning the prison phone in my office rang. However, from the beginning I got a strange feeling about the call. When I looked at the display screen rather than a phone number showing up, I only saw "UNKNOWN". Hesitantly, I answered the call where a masked voice said "The secret is here." Before I had time to ask a question, I heard the phone click then silence.
Immediately I had the SRPD trace all calls placed in the last hour, and the only one with *67 placed in front of it came from the office in the port.
Immediately I went to the port to try to catch whomever gave this tip to me for further questioning, but there wasn't a soul to be seen...anywhere.
After searching for "the secret" for over an hour, I stepped onto the docked boat and found handcuffs and a strange white mask. I can only assume that the mask was from a Hedoian. The clues are currently being analyzed by the SRPD. Further details will be released as confirmed.

News : Dead girl Laura involved in local cult.
Laura's murderer may have been amongst fellow cultists.
The Daily Sins has now learned that Laura Dreadlow had been involved with the religious order " Kingdom of Hedoia" and was " … very into it " according to local Hedoian organiser - Arwyn Quandry.
It was Miss Quandry who had recruited Laura into joining the Kingdom of Hedoia during one of the orders' recruitment drives; though when asked - denies having had any sexual relations with Laura herself. Miss Quandry goes on record as saying "… We believe that you should do what makes you happy and if a same-sex relationship does that , do it"
Miss Quandry had joined what she refers to as ".. A new religious order" as she felt repressed in her home town. Joining Hedoia had "…got me out of a rut and into something I loved and could have fun with"
However the fun seems to be over for poor Laura Dreadlow, whose badly abused body had been wrapped up in plastic and dumped in the port waters of Sinners Rest City on the 17th of April. The port authority was not available for comment at the time.
There is no doubt now that the religious practices of the Kingdom of Hedoia may have had some bearing in this case and that their activities will be of police interest.

Some information about the Kingdom of Hedoia.
- The organization is known as The Great Kingdom of Hedoia.
- The Leader is called the Joker. He is considered the perfection of Flesh Form (the human body on Earth).
- After a Hedoian dies, they believe they will enter the Great Kingdom and fully enjoy themselves without fear.
- They believe in the Spirit of Hedos and often say goodbye to others by saying "May the Spirit bless you" or "May you be blessed with the Spirit's Joy".
- All members wear masks on official business such as recruiting or rallying. Others wear them off of business as well.
- The group is spreading slowly throughout major US, South American, and European cities.
- Illegal activity is not condoned by the group, though it is known to happen.
- Their biggest activity is recruitment.
- All of the Joker's decrees are optional to follow, but members generally listen.

Early Morning Coffee with Nancy Neiro
I read the newspaper report about the burglary at the therapists's practice, but I didn't connect it to the note I received until later. If nothing else, this has taught me that I need to be a lot sharper. I'm now thinking that the note probably came from a third party rather than from the therapist himself. Did this person know what to look for, or was the note to me just an opportunity taken after a chance find? I don't know for sure if there is a connection but it does at least give me something to go on, and now I have a name - Dr Jake Hobie.
Early the next morning I went to the Dogs Bollocks for a coffee. The coffee isn't great there but I like the feel of the place (when the owner isn't around) and the location, so close to the sea. It helps me to wake me up.

There was only one other patron in there at that time, Nancy, the cousin of poor Laura. I did want to speak to her but I hadn't planned on looking for her yet. She had far too many other things on her mind, after all.
I found her to be still edgy, which was no surprise, but on the whole she seems to be bearing up quite well. She's managed to find out a little more about her cousin's lifestyle, including some suggestions which are likely to raise a few eyebrows.
She also mentioned that the dead girl had been seeing Dr Hobie, which of course made me sit up and take notice. It seems he works out of a room over the Daily Sins newspaper office. I'll have to take a look. I could ask Dita what she knows about it, but I'll need to be careful what I say to her. She's sure to have a few questions of her own.
Anyway, back to Nancy. She said her mother amd Laura's are sisters, and that both she and Laura were only children. My heart went out to her when she said that. I did ask if she knew anything about Laura's father, but she said she knew very little. I can see I'm not going to have an easy time finding out more about that line.
We chatted a bit more and it seems that we have a few other mutual acquaintances in this and nearby towns, so it's likely we'll be seeing more of each other while she's around. She's a bright girl, but vulnerable, and I have an uneasy feeling she's going to have a lot more pain to go through before she finds any peace.
Later on I did get to speak to Dr Balut at the hospital. She didn't know Dr Hobie but offered to make enquiries. She'd read the newspaper report too, of course, and I expect she has her own reasons for wanting to find out more about him. On my way back I stopped off at his place but the door leading upstairs was locked and there was no reply when I rang the bell. The newspaper office was empty too so I shall have to try another day.

Letter to the Editor
A single page of black cardstock bearing the following message has been slipped under the door of the editor's office, on the evening of Sunday, May 2nd, in a brown manilla envelope. It is composed of individual letters and punctuation marks clipped from newsprint and ads, all in precise square and rectangular shapes of various sizes. It is possible that much of the text was cut from one or multiple issues of The Daily Sinner itself. In contrast to the obvious meticulous care that has been taken to make every edge straight and every angle perfect, the letters are not placed in straight lines, and they often overlap. There is, however, a clear, straight left margin with nothing in it. The final line, which might be intended as the author's signature, is the most crowded line of all, and nearly runs off the right edge of the page.
Well now, here is your window.
It's open now, I think you can handle it, I've watched you and think you're capable of understanding.
Laura. Little Laura...what was her last name? Precious? Adorable. Little Laura Five-dollar Handjob.
She was shit the first time. I let it slide, cause you know, you have to learn to function differently.
It takes time, Lord, I should know. Lord, why didn't you save her? She asked so many times.
Well, you didn't show, so I saved her.Saved her from herself, she was so lost. Body couldn't show her
the way out, so I did. Showed her the way out. and in. and out. and in. I need you to know, so that you
know she's happy now. Fucking her way through heaven.
See, I save people. I am people. I could be you, Icould be her, I was her. I was her. I was her. I was her.
She was me. I'm everyone, eventually.
I'll even tell you where to find me. Look where people are free. Look where people are free to give themselves.
Laura did.
